The small, but very enchanting Casa do Piorno is named after a bush that was born only at this place of the village and which was commonly known as the ´Piorno´.
Casa do Piorno, like most houses in the village, was a refuge for shepherds who used to climb up the valley during the summer to feed their cattle on the green pastures.
Today, Casa do Piorno retrieves the function of receiving those who climb up the mountain to discover the charms of the Peneda-Gêres.
Branda da Aveleira is one of the several scattered upland areas of a verdant village named Melgaço. It offers a stay in total harmony with nature, which is strengthened by a characteristic of Branda da Aveleira; there are no permanent inhabitants, besides the animals that graze in the mountains, specially the ´Garranos´, a horse breed native of northern Portugal, are very common here.
Enjoy all the simplicity of a stay on the mountain and get taken by the mysticism that hangs around every corner of this village. Breathe healthy air coming from the mountains and follow the paths and walk the trails that will lead you through lush vegetation.
